How To Use CBD Oil For Anxiety

Today, there are more than 40 million adults suffer from some form of anxiety in the United States. It is the most common mental disorder and, if left untreated, can affect a person’s life with catastrophic consequences.  Those who suffer from anxiety may be wondering how to use cbd oil for anxiety.  For decades, benzodiazepines have been the preferred drug for treating anxiety. What they do is they technically numb down neurons and make them resistant to excitation. Technically they just neutralize part of your nervous system. That sounds like overkill to me.

However, these compounds have also demonstrated to be quite dangerous. Over-prescription of benzodiazepines happens fairly often. As individuals develop tolerance to them, it is common to see dosage increments, leading to overdosing and even fatalities. In fact, from 1996 to 2013, the deaths caused by benzodiazepines more than quadrupled.

The scientific community has never stopped its search for a more effective and less damaging treatment for anxiety. Fortunately, recent discoveries on how our body interacts with cannabinoids have shown that a new age for the treatment of mental disorders has come.

The endocannabinoid system

Most people don´t know that all mammals, including humans, have an endocannabinoid system. That’s right. Our organisms are designed to produce and absorb cannabinoids naturally. The endocannabinoid system was discovered relatively recently. Scientists spent decades trying to prove, without any significant success, that cannabinoids were harmful and should remain illegal.

However, the resulting evidence now confirms that not only the human body produces certain cannabinoids substances, but that their receptors are located everywhere in our bodies. In fact, it is now thought to be the largest system in the organism, and it is literally in charge of regulating major biological functions.

CBD oil interacts with this system and helps it in its functions. The process is still being researched, but it seems to have a homeostatic (balancing) function in our nervous, immune, and endocrine systems.  On the other hand, overdosing with cannabinoids is practically impossible, and their side effects are almost non-existent. This sense of security has brought people to experiment with hemp derived products to help them cope with anxiety and other disorders. However, not all forms of cannabinoids have the same effects or are legal.

Knowing your CBD

While it is true that the marijuana plant contains cannabinoids, it is hard to guarantee uniform dosage from it. Besides, it also contains high levels of THC, the psychoactive compound that gets us “high”. This element is not good for everyone. It can even trigger anxiety in some sensitive individuals. Moreover, products that contain THC are still frowned upon by the law in many states.  While CBD oil cannot be officially said to treat anxiety, it has demonstrated to be a really effective
anxiety management product.

Make sure the CBD oil for anxiety you get comes from hemp and has less than 0.3% THC.

Given the existence of endocannabinoid receptors in virtually every part of our bodies, CBD oils for anxiety are fairly easy to absorb. Mucous membranes located right under the tongue can quickly absorb the oil and pass it on directly into the bloodstream, maximizing effectiveness.  One or two doses a day usually are enough to reduce stress levels, anxiety, and even improve sleep. However, it depends on the individual, how severe the anxiety levels are.

How to Use CBD Oil For Anxiety

We recommend starting with one half dropper full of sublingual CBD oil before going to bed for a few days before going to sleep. It will help your body adapt to it, and make sure you don’t take too much of it.

After a few days, or even a week, you can increase the quantity gradually until you feel the effects of the cannabinoids in your body. Try not to change the dosage too often. Maybe after two weeks, you can try a higher dose as your body adapts to it and you start feeling the anxiety levels going down.
